Scouting Report: Adoree' Jackson

Junipero (CA) Gardena Serra cornerback Adoree' Jackson
Name: Adoree' Jackson
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 172 lbs.
High school: Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra
Position: Cornerback
Class: 2014

Notes: Holds offers from Arizona State, Boise State, California, Colorado, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oregon State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington, and Washington State . . . State champion in long jump . . . As a junior in 2012, had 70 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles . . . Rivals 5-star, #2 CB, #8 overall . . . Scout 4-star, #8 CB . . . 247 Sports 4-star, 97 grade, #4 CB, #33 overall . . . Teammate of Michigan linebacker offeree Dwight Williams . . . Attends alma mater of former Michigan targets George Farmer (USC) and Marqise Lee (USC)

Strengths: Excellent change of direction . . . Very fluid hips . . . Great recovery speed . . . Very confident player . . . Good vision and field awareness . . . Should be adept in man coverage but also good in zone . . . Tough runner with ball in hand . . . Dynamic ball skills . . . Versatile player who could play wide receiver, cornerback, and returner

Weaknesses: Sits too high in backpedal . . . Largely gets by on superior athleticism . . . Very thin player who might struggle with bigger receivers and run support . . . Could afford to be more physical in coverage . . . Has tendency to high-step into endzone, which may get him in trouble

Projection: Cornerback, punt returner.  Jackson is the type of athlete who could play in all three phases of the game, and I would not be surprised to see a team put him at cornerback but also play him occasionally at wide receiver.  A Charles Woodson comparison seems timely here, but Woodson was a bigger and more physical player.  Jackson looks like a potential shutdown cornerback and quite possibly a future All-American.

Reminds me of: Branden Smith (Georgia cornerback)

  1. Just curious, What leads you to profile a specific kid rather than another, likelihood that he's coming, hoping he's coming, just plain like the kid?

If it were me, I'd be profiling Joe Mixon once a week just on the basis that he's so much fun to watch. And as an aside, if that's not the little sisters of the poor he's out there playing against, it's inconceivable that Scout only wants to give him three stars.

    1. There's no real system to it. I try to make sure it's a kid who at least has interest in Michigan because I want it to be useful to readers if the kid commits, and it has to be a kid with video available that's longer than just a few plays.

  2. Why do you not give a numerical grade to prospects that you've evaluated, yet are not committed to Michigan? It seems like it would be a good tool for comparing guys. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has wondered this.

    1. I only rate players who commit to Michigan because part of the rating is how they fit in with the Michigan roster. Since someone like Jackson isn't committed to Michigan, then the roster really doesn't have much to do with him. For example, I might think Offensive Tackle X could be a darn good player, but if he's in the same class as two other offensive tackles who seem destined to be first round picks, then Offensive Tackle X might find himself buried on the bench.

  4. How would you rate/compare him to Jabrill Peppers?

    1. Peppers is a little bigger and stronger. Both are very good, but Jackson is more of a field corner and Peppers is more of a boundary guy. I'd like Jackson more right now, mainly because of the talent already on Michigan's roster and Jackson's ability as a returner/offensive player. Peppers is more of a one-dimensional player (defense), in my opinion.

  5. Could you add a section indicating the level of interest in Michigan from these prospects. I have no idea what our chances are with this kid. Other than that, thanks for the write-ups I find them informative.

    1. I will try to keep that in mind for the future. Jackson likes Michigan, but he has said that LSU is his dream school. So it might just be a battle for second place.

  6. The next Woodson! Tribute to Chuck that 15 years later Michigan is still hunting and fans are still clamoring for a repeat. I don't think there is such a thing, but it's fun to remember. Like you implied Thunder - hard to find that combination of athleticism and size with the character to match.

Jackson sounds really really good - let's get him.

  7. Do you of know of any particular reasons why he's so high on LSU? Obviously they've been a successful program over the last ten years, but I wonder what might separate them from the rest right now.
