2011 Countdown: #50 Seth Broekhuizen

Seth Broekhuizen
Name: Seth Broekhuizen
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 195 lbs.
High school: Holland Christian High School in Holland, MI
Position: Kicker
Class: Redshirt sophomore
Jersey number: #46
Last year: I did not rank Broekhuizen.  He was 42-for-43 on extra point attempts and 3-for-9 on field goal attempts.

I will admit to knowing very little about the mechanics of kicking a football, but I do know that a 33% conversion rate on field goals is not very good.  Not that it was all Broekhuizen's fault.  He was a walk-on for a reason, and scholarship kicker Brendan Gibbons didn't get the job done either, going 1-for-4 on the year.

What I do know is that Michigan needs to kick the ball better if they want to be a good team, which is why the coaching staff recruited San Diego's Matt Wile.  Wile might be the solution at kicker, but we all thought that about Gibbons in 2009 . . . and 2010.  I don't really care where the field goals come from, as long as they go through the uprights with a fair amount of consistency.

Prediction: Who knows?

  2. The whole kicking debacle is all in the heads of the kicker. I was a high school kicker when our soccer player kicker got drilled on a punt and I went 13 for 14 on extra points(only miss i had was a blocked kick). then on field goals i was 4-4 with the long being 42 yards. It is all mechanics and muscle memory, and when you get that down its all composure and mental preperation
